About Shri Narsingh Temple

Narsingh Devta Temple is also known as Jyotirmath, Joshimath, Narasimha Badri and Narsingh Badri Temple is a famous hindu temple dedicated to Lord Narasimha. He is the fourth Avatar of Sri Maha Vishnu. This temple is located in the Joshimath, Chamoli district in Uttarakhand. Narasimha Temple is one of the most popular temples in Joshimath. This temple is one of the Pilgrimage of the Sapta temples. Lord Narasimha is known to protect his devotee Prahlad who killed the demon Hiranyakashipu.

Shri Narsingh Badri Temple History

It is believed that the construction of this temple was done by by Sri Shankaracharya. The idol of God Narasimha established in the temple, is made of Shaligram stone. This statue was built during the reign of King Lalitaditya Yukta Pida of Kashmir in the 8th century. This idol of the deity of Narasimha is also believed to manifest. The stuatue measures 10 inches (25 cm) and represents God seated in the lotus position.

The history of Narasimha Badri temple is closely linked to the legend of Bhavishya Badri temple. It is believed that the statue’s left arm will decrease over time and eventually disappear. The main temple of Badrinath and the sanctuary of Badrinath will be blocked and inaccessible. Lord Badrinath will then appear in this temple of Bhavishya Badri. Instead of the Badrinath temple, there will be worshipped here.

When the main temple of Badrinath is closed in winter, the priests of Badrinath go to this temple and continue to worship Badrinath here. There is a statue of Badrinath in the temple, along with the main statue of Narasimha.
