About Kadiyali Shree Mahishamardini Temple

Kadiyali Shree Mahishamardhini Temple is one of the oldest temples in Udupi district. History of temple dates back to more than 1400 years and closely linked to history of Udupi – Rajathapeetapuram. As per belief Kadiyali temple was built by King RajaBhoja around same time he built Udupi Shri Anantheshwara Temple. Historical and archaeological studies have revealed temple architecture corresponding to same time. Revered idol of Shri Mahishamardhini is very unique and made of smooth single black stone appears much ancient. Udupi Shri Krishna Mutt established by his holiness Shri Shri Shri Madhwacharya has a very close link with Kadiyali Shree Mahishamardhini Temple. Kadiyali temple being on northeast corner of original Udupi town limits is Grama Devi of shivalli and Kadiyali villages. Interestingly annual religious procession of boundary crossing (Seemollanghana) from Udupi Krishna Mutt ends with Pooja at Kadiyali temple on Vijaya Dashami day. Every year colourful procession of Holi celebration from Shri Krishna Mutt arrivesto Kadiyali Temple. Swamijis of 8 mutts (Ashta Mutts) of Udupi visit Shree Kadiyali temple before they start their Paryaya (2 year rotation Pooja of Lord Shri Krishna at Krishna Mutt). Udupi Shree Krishna Mutt partially supports annadhana program of Kadiyali temple every Friday since many centuries.

It appears, original sanctum sanctorum of the temple is very strong and untouched since inception. Outer wall of the sanctum sanctorum was renovated using carved granites in late 1990s. Now in current (2021-2022) renovation after following due process we have started rebuilding of previously dismantled outer yard of temple (entrance and suttu pouli) and other essential structures as per traditional temple Vastu of the region using quality granite, laterite, wood and copper. Also we are installing a new flag post, planning renovation of Car Street around the temple and plan to build a Yaga Shala. Work of Lord Subramanya – Naga and Nandigona shrine are already completed and commissioned. In next phase we intend to acquire land around the temple aimed at providing amenities for devotees and smooth functioning of various religious, cultural and social programs throughout the year. This massive renovation of ancient important religious shrine of the region as per traditional style require as per current estimate approximately Rs. 7.0 crores. (Please find attached detailed brochure with bank details) We hereby appeal to you to be part of this holy historical opportunity cum duty by generously contributing to best of your ability and invoke blessings of Shree Kadiyali Mahishamardhini.
