About Bhairavi:
‘Bhadra’ refers to the one who thinks about the welfare of everyone. Maa Kali took the ‘Bhadra’ form to shower her Divine Blessings on her Devotees and fulfill all their wishes. Shri Bhadrakali Temple situated in Nashik is a Siddha Shaktipeeth, and has also earned its mention in the Shiva Purana. Mata Sati sacrificed herself in King Daksha’s Yagya as Daksha insulted her husband Lord Shiva. After this, Shri Vishnu cut her body into different parts with his Sudarshana Chakra. The places in which Mata Sati’s body parts fell were established as Shakti Peethas. It is believed that Mata Sati’s chin had fallen in this place in Nashik where she appeared in the form of Mata Bhadrakali.
The Temple contains a self manifested idol of Mata Bhadrakali. It is said that this idol was placed on the top of a hill during the Islamic reign. In 1790 AD, Sardar Ganpatrao Patwardhan Dixit got the Temple renovated. This Temple is one of the most prominent and popular places of worship of Mata Bhadrakali. Participating in Puja in this Temple is considered utmost fruitful and no Devotee returns empty-handed from the abode of Mata Bhadrakali.
