About Sant Sri Sadguru Keshav Swamy Maharaj

We have all heard of horror stories of the Hindus being ill-treated and tortured during Nizam’s rule (1911 to 1948). Rajakars were actively encouraged to demolish muths and temples. It is surprising and inspirational to find symbols of Hinduism surviving that torrid period, all because of Tapa Shakti,

“Jeeva Samadhi” of Shri Shri Keshava Swami Maharaj in Bhagya Nagar Jiyaguda, and Vitthal temple near it are prominent surviving Hindu symbols in the city of Hyderabad.

Shri Shri Samardha Ramadas Swami, the guru of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, sent one of his disciples, Shri Shri Keshava Swamiji, to Hyderabad to protect Hindu Dharma. He constructed Vitthal temple and built a cottage near it in the beautiful surroundings of the Moosi River and completely immersed himself in meditation. He used to bathe in the Moosi River and practice meditation as his daily routine.

One day when he was at river Moosi, a smalI procession passed by with a dead body to arm its last rites. A lady among them bowed Shri Keshava Swamiji, and he blessed her as Subhagyavati Bhava”. The others standing there laughed as the dead body belonged to her husband. During those times, there was a tradition that the deceased’s wife also went along with the procession to the burial ground.

When Swamiji realized the reason behind the laughter, he asked them to lower the dead body to the ground and remave the wrapped cloth and flowers. To everyone’s amazement, the dead body came alive on Swami’s mere looks.

Everyone present did “Sashtanga namaskaram” to Swamiji. As the news spread, many people started coming with the dead, and Swamiji brought them back to life. This is why the place came to be called jia-Guda because ‘Jia’ means (alive).

Shri Samardha Ramadas Swami

became aware of Shri Keshav Swami Maharaj’s miraculous deeds. So he appeared before Keshava Swamiji invisibly and told him that such supernatural works are forbidden in Kaliyuga.

Keshava Swamiji said that it is due to the power of Tapa Shakti and grace of his Guru Swami Samardh Ramadas that dead people were coming back to life. So, Swami Samardh Ramadas asked him to bless only those who came with true Bhakti and Shradhha (True Devotion). He realised that as his Guru’s message and took “Jeeva Samadhi” at a short distance from Vitthal temple.
