About Jal Binayak
Jal Binayak is a Hindu Temple of Lord Ganesh located in the Chobhar of Kathmandu District. The Jal Binayak temple is one of the most important Ganesh shrines in Kathmandu. It is one of the four Ganesh shrines in the Kathmandu valley. Jal Binayak is the eldest of the four, according to legend.
The stone statue of Lord Ganesh is said to have appeared out of the water, according to the intriguing history of Jal Binayak temple. As a result, the deity was given the name Jal Binayak, as “Jal” means “water.” According to legend, the temple was first established in 723 Nepal Sambat by King Shiva Singh Malla. King Sri Nivas Malla of Patan added a gold-plated Gajur (pointed design on roof-top center) after 66 years in 789 Nepal Sambat. In the year 871 Nepal Sambat, King Rajya Prakash Malla of Kathmandu renovated the temple in Pagoda style.
